As the Secretary for TEDxFIU in 2018, I was responsoble for ensuring that meetings were organized and that the minutes were cataloged. At the time I became the secretary, the club had recently come of off a sobatical. The previous Eboard had all graduated without ensuring their positions to be held bu other memebers. It was a great learning experience as to learning how to run a student led club on campus and the work that goes into creating it from scratch. Each meeting I created a detained log of what was discussed and improvement ideas for the organization. I also held logs for individual meetings between other board members and FIU’s Council for Student Organizations.
American Marketing Association (AMA)
I have been a member of AMA since I began attending FIU. I have held multiple roles including Roaring Concepts (RC) Manager & Junior executive, and a member of the Community and Social Impacts.
As a RC manager I led.a group of students in assisting a local company with their rebrading and and marketing. Over the course of 12 weeks we worked with the companies manager creating surveys, orchestrating campaigns across FIU, and rebranded the company name & logo. At the same time, I was also the RC executive manager. Along side my own team, I assited other student groups and their managers with engaging with their clients and working on solving their own issues with their respective companies.

As an member of the Community and Social Impact Commitee I was involved in a number of fundraising events for various community organizations. This included the Little Lighthouse Foundation and GlobeMedFIU.
Global Learning Courses
In order to gain greater insight from a global perspective, I have taken Global Learning courses. This includes International Financial Management and Introduction to Religion.
Intro to Religion: In my first semester I enrolled in this course. It covered a range of world religions and how they affect society as a whole.
International Finacial Management. I am currently enrolled in this course. It discusses a wide variety of finance. Specifically trading between countries and how companies work with monetary values in different currencies.
South Korea & China

I took a trip to South Korea & China in the summer of 2019 with the FIU Study Abroad program. Beginning in South Korea, we landed in a moment in History. President Trump crossed into North Korea durign our visit there. Our first day we arrived, we went on a city tour to visit popular historical sites and temples. A group of us was seperated and went to visit the DMV. It so happened to be that at the moment this was happening, Kim Jong Un and president Trump were meeting and preparing for President Trump to cross into North Korea (becoming the first US president to do so). When he crossed we watched on a television on the tour bus only a few feet away from the site. From there on every day we visited a different company. Some of these companies were not known in the US but were very well known in Korea. We learned how the demographic affects the method of marketing how competitive the Korean market is. Also, I learned how to comunicate with the locals through other means instead of just spoken language.
In China, we were emersed into a new government form, a communist country. Being from the states, I was not used to limited internet. In China the internet is monitered and websites commonly used in the US are blocked. It was much harder to get around and comunicate here becuase so little poeple spoke english. China was more intersting in the sense of how similar to the states is was. There were many cultural locations we went to, but in out area it was more city structured with many american store companies. The culture still showed. At night people gathered to dance is large groups, all wearinf similar clothing and such. In the day we went to historical sites where we learned the history and culture.
I found this trip more connected to my career because I was able to experience the culture more stringly compared to India&Dubai because I was able to venture on my own more safely. They were also in the center of worlds politics because of all the events that were occuring: South Koreas fight with North Korea and China’s fight with Hong Kong and its police brutality.
Dubai & India

During the winter of 2018, I journeyed to Dubai and India. Although this wasn’t my first time leaving the country, it was the first time I had gone to unfamiliar territory and without knowing anyone either. Feeling a bit nervous, this feeling quickly went away through the generosity and kindness of the locals.
Going as a business student I partucularly enjoyed seeing how the cities were structured and how foriegn businesses were run. Site visits provided much to learn of the history and why certain things were the way they were. For instance, in Dubai older buildings had flat roofs with small pipes peaking out of the corner of the roofs. This is because it does not often rain and so the roof would collect water when it did, than the pipes would pour the water into a barrel on the ground. Company visits showed for U.S companies were able to compete in such comepetitive markets. For instance, in India we met with IBM where we learned of projects being developed to further assist the country in aiding the pollution issue.
Overall it was a truly wonderful experience. It was not a typical touring endeavor, instead I was able to learn and experience the country while also openening my perspective of how different yet similar we are to other countries and what we could do to better not only our own nation but others as well.
Tuesday Times Roundtable
Every Tuesday at FIU a Tuesday Times Roundtable is held. In my first semester as a Global Learning student, this is how I engaged in the program. Each week a new topic in the New York Times article was discussed, and each week was a different speaker. I found that many of the topics discussed in some way correlated with topics in my courses. For instance, a new app proposal was once discussed. Creating a way to lower food waste, 2 women proposed an app that would partner with resturaunts to sell food at a discount during the last hour of business hours to help sell the food left so that they would not be thrown away. This discussion allowed me to learn about their business proposal and to learn about how targeted demographics is used with these proposals. Other weeks, I learned about resources availaible for students in other fields. Overall, each week I was able to learn something new and was anle to apply them in real world situations.
Reflection

My Global perspective has changed through my Global Learning experience. After visiting various countries I was able to learn of different cultures, history’s, and global standing. I am more aware of gloabl events and their impact on countries other than their own. As a business student, my degree pursues international business and management. I have learned on what companies have done in the past that has either helped or destroyed various communities (ex: oil spills, pollution, etc.) and what they did following these incidents. I have witnessed first hand in India what such pollution can do to the environment and the people. And I have seen what technologies being invented in other countries can do to help places like India. Being aware of this can allow for countires to work together to help solve their problems. I plan on using this awareness/knowledge in my future career, to help bridge connections and solve these problems. Having experienced so much in my 4 years at FIU and through this program, I plan using the knowledge I have gained to pursue a career in international business consulting. Specifically in social impact (helping companies run in a way that helps the community around it and creating programs to help them grows. I have grown as a leaader, having been charged with a group of students on these programs. I not only learned how to communicate with my team but also learn how to communicate withothers in different countries, using not only speaking language but body language. I’ve learned personal behavior and civic responsibility through the teachings of what companies are doing to create a positive social impact in their communities. Using these skills, I hope to create a job field that creates a positive impact in the world.
